Joseph Kirkpatrick McClurkin III, 73, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2017.
Joseph was born in Athens, GA on April 4, 1944 to Joseph Kirkpatrick McClurkin II and Eloise Jackson Brown. He was an exceptional athlete growing up and especially talented in football and baseball. After college, he moved to Virginia Beach, VA in the 1970’s where he raised his two children. He later relocated to Montgomery, AL to be near family and land that he loved. Joe was a successful business owner for most of his working years. He loved nature (especially hummingbirds), rodeo, cars, motorcycles, snow skiing and golfing.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Nancilu Dennis McClurkin and parents, including stepfather, Lamar Brown, and brother, Jay Brown. Joe’s father was a decorated World War II hero who died during the war before he was able to meet his son. It gives his family great joy to know they have now had a glorious meeting and are celebrating eternal life together.
Joe’s survivors include his daughter, Tracy McClurkin Meadows and husband, Jay Meadows and their children, Tyler, Alex, Eli and Landen, and son, Joseph Kirkpatrick McClurkin IIII (Kirk) and wife, Melissa Hornes McClurkin, and their children, Amalia and Joseph, brother Tony Brown, nieces and nephew and numerous cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017, 11a.m. at The Carpenter’s House Church located at 3465 West Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456. A graveside ceremony will take place in Tallassee, AL at a later date.
